Southern Verandahs

No. 1-5 Lord Street

This colonnade has been very well kept and maintained by its respective key stakeholders with periodic maintenance of the overhead guttering which has noticeably preserved the aesthetic of the signature black and white column structures. The very beginning of the acclaimed Lord Street Verandahs fund at the southern end of the high street continue to be a key focal point greeting residents and visitors alike as they enter Lord Street from the southern direction and neighbouring Liverpool. It is hoped that the overhead facia frontage will also undergo restorative works after raising both this and the Verandahs originally with the key stakeholders.

No. 7-11 Lord Street

This canopy has undergone periodic maintenance largely taken care of by its respective key stakeholders. Having originally written to and corresponded with all key stakeholders, this unit has been well kept.

This set of units has generally been well maintained since I originally contacted the key stakeholders. An extensive restoration took place in 2016 with follow up maintenance since that time. I am hopeful that upcoming refurbishment works including the overhead fascia frontage may be scheduled in due course.

No. 13-25 Lord Street

This parade of units has recently undertaken an extensive and impressive restoration with continued periodic maintenance works since 2018. The key stakeholders have also undertaken a full restoration of their overhead fascia frontages which further showcase the elegance of the traditional vernacular architecture based here. This colonnade’s restoration was completed in 2019.

No. 92-96 Lord Street

This southern colonnade has always been well maintained with its upkeep admirably undertaken by its respective key stakeholders. Whilst I have corresponded with all such third parties, this set of Victorian Verandahs has always been taken meticulous care of.

No. 93-97 Lord Street

This colonnade has been immaculately maintained by its respective key stakeholders with little to no need to liaise as much as other units. Having raised the overhead fascia frontage, notably the tarnished sandstone and rebrick in need of refurbishment this is now finally scheduled to undergo a thorough restoration in due course from 2024 onwards.

No. 100-106 Lord Street

This central colonnade has been exceptionally well maintained undertaking an extensive full restoration back in 2015 following my original corresponding with the respective key stakeholders. Since that time these units have undertaken a frequent maintenance programme ensuring this cross-section of the high street showcases its full elegance and grace. It is worth noting the vast effort to conserve this large parade of units which also comprises the beginning of Eastbank Street.

No. 107-111 Lord Street

This colonnade has been exceptionally well restored and continually maintained. Having corresponded frequently with the key stakeholders including their contractors on site I was able to observe the intrinsic work undertaken to prime this signature set of units.

No. 125-131 Lord Street

This series of units undertook an extensive restoration back in 2016 with provisional works in 2014. Having liaised directly with the key stakeholders and designated contractors during my time on the Local Authority I was able to help secure a full colour restoration including the regal red and gold adornments pictured here. Since that time the units have still undergone maintenance, however I may once again get in touch in my voluntary capacity as a Community Campaigner to prevent any significant costly repairs being required wherever possible.

This southern colonnade undertook one of the largest and most extensive full restorations back in 2016 with provisional works beginning in 2014 when I originally contacted the respective key stakeholders. These same stakeholders should be complemented for integrating the distinctive red, black, white on gold colour scheme that adorns the metalwork and indeed for being one of the very first units to incorporate the overhead black guttering and fretwork aesthetic which not only complements the overall appearance, but provides greater longevity against tarnishing. I am pleased that these signature units have had periodic maintenance undertaken since I originally corresponded with them and I look forward to seeing the next works commence soon.

No. 133-141 Lord Street

This unit has largely maintained itself following my original correspondence with the respective key stakeholders. I am hopeful that these Victorian Verandahs may integrate the original black on white colour scheme as soon as the next maintenance programmed is scheduled to best showcase this unit and this cross-section of the high street.

No. 143-153 Lord Street

This parade of units is scheduled for an extensive restoration that will include the long-awaited inclusion of the signature black on white colour scheme on the pictured abacus heads at the top of each columns and associated cast iron fretwork.  Having been continually liaising with the key stakeholders I am hopeful that will take place between 2024 to 2025 after originally raising this with the relevant parties concerned. This should simultaneously include work on the overhead fascia frontage.

No. 195-197 Lord Street

This unit required very little effort to secure restoration works as the key stakeholders already had a schedule in place. I did however contact the associated relevant parties in the event that they wished to undertake their refurbishment of their premises at the same time as their neighbouring units in the vent of matching paint schemes and reducing costs further for everyone. These units have always been exceptionally maintained both before and since my contacting the key stakeholders.
