History

Lord Street is a famous Victorian-era boulevard located in Southport, Merseyside, England. It was named after Thomas Stanley, the 7th Earl of Derby, who held extensive estates in the area.

In the 19th century, Southport was known as a fashionable spa town. As a result, Lord Street was transformed from a simple country lane into an elegant promenade, lined with grand hotels, shops, and residential buildings. Many of the original buildings still stand today and are regarded as some of the best examples of Victorian architecture in the country.

Lord Street was designed to be a showpiece street, with much attention paid to its layout and landscaping. The street is almost a mile long and has a central green space running down the middle. This green space features a variety of floral displays and sculptures.

Today, Lord Street remains one of the most attractive streets in the country, drawing thousands of visitors every year. It has been given a number of awards, including a Purple Flag status for its unique nighttime offerings and a Place of National Significance award. In short, Lord Street is a heritage landmark that embraces the town’s roots while being fully-functional and thriving.
